Product Description Soft Paws will fit most kittens by the time they reach the age of 16 weeks (4 months). Some kittens can wear them as early as age 12 weeks (3 months). To test, try a nail cap on first without the adhesive. If it looks too big, don?t glue it on. The nail cap should fit snugly, like a glove. Each Soft Paws kit contains 40 nail caps, 2 tubes of adhesive, applicator tips and easy to follow instructions. One kit contains enough for 4 front paw applications. Each application lasts approximately 4-6 weeks therefore each kit lasts approximately 4-6 months. To accommodate younger kittens, you can trim the base of the Soft Paws nail cap making it smaller so it will fit your kitten?s nail. Kittens up to about 5 pounds generally fit the kitten size. Kittens up to about 5 months generally fit the kitten size. This size can be safely used on Ferrets!

I'm still trying to decide if this is better than just clipping December 13, 2008 Emily Davidson (Hawaii) I have two kittens, one about 4 months, one about 5 months. Each package comes with 40 claw covers, 4 tubes of glue, and 4 funnels for the glue. I placed the covers on the front claws only, as those are the ones the cats use to scratch my furniture, which means 2 applications per cat (or 4 applications for one cat). The instructions were adequate, but not as detailed as I would have liked. First, you need to trim your cat's claws. This doesn't come with a claw clipper, and I thought it was purely an alternative to clipping, so I didn't have a set of clippers. If your cats aren't already used to this, they will fight you. Second, open the glue and attach a "funnel" to the opening (when you get the set, you'll see what I mean). Then you get a claw cover (this package had two types, and I never have figured out the difference. I thought perhaps some of them were a bit smaller and tried to use these first). Fill the claw cover 1/3 full with glue, then place it on the cat's trimmed claw. Warning: this is usually a two person job and you might want to trim the cat's back claws before attempting this, as the cat WILL fight you and you are very likely to get scratched. I don't know what is so extraordinarly unpleasant about having the claw covers put on, but even my calmer cat fought me. You have to press the cat's paw to get the claws to extend, like you would for clipping. You have to get the cover all the way on, to where the claw connects to the paw, or it will fall off. Cats do not like this. After you get all 10 on you cat, the package says to "watch cat for 5 minutes." Don't watch--hold! If you put the cat down , the claw covers will fall off with the cat's normal activity. Hold the cat for 5 mintues to make sure the glue is dry. The package says the cats will chew on them and try to get them off until they are used to them and if they get them off, put them back on. However, after the glued has dried in the claw cover, you can't use it again, so you would need to use a new one. Doing this with every cover that comes off may make you go through a container rather quickly. I have put two applications on both my cats. The first time, my female had all the covers off within a day. The male kept most of his on for about a week (they're supposed to stay on 4-6 weeks). A second application had better results--I think I knew what I was doing a bit better. Though the male did get all his off within a week again, the female has had hers on for about 3 weeks now. I have been clipping the male's claws since I haven't bought another box yet. I have to clip weekly at least, and he still tries to scratch everything. The female has not tried to scratch anything and has been hassle-free. I am trying to decide if it is worth the cost and the blood loss to keep buying these and putting them on. I think they would be if I could guarantee they would stay on. I don't think it's a flaw in the product, since they stayed on one cat and not the other, I think it's a flaw in my application. I will probably buy some more and see if I can universally duplicate the success I had with the second application on the female.
Great until they start to grow out September 16, 2007 C. Johnson (Texas, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I put these on my three month old kitten and they worked like a charm until they started to grow out. His nails got longer so the Soft Paws got further and further from his toes, which left a gap that exposed his real nails and an edge on the Soft Paws that caught on everything. The fireplace screen was especially troublesome and once he got a loop of carpet hooked around his real nail and couldn't slide it off because of the Soft Paw - I had to cut the carpet to free him. I'm just glad I was home when that happened. Afterwards I started to worry when I left the house that I'd come home and find he'd been stuck in the carpet or hanging from the fireplace screen for hours. When he did get stuck in things he'd freak out and start pulling his arm to get free and it looked horrible for his shoulder joint. It's a shame they don't grow out better, because other than that problem they really worked well. But I won't be using them again.
Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful August 26, 2007 MadMomma (IN United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We just adopted 2 kittens from our local shelter for our 6 year old and 3 year old kids. My husband wanted to get them declawed but I don't like declawing. So I thought I'd try these and it was the best thing I've done, the cats are 12 weeks old and it took them about 12 hours to really get used to them but now they don't even notice they are there. Now I don't have to worry about the kids getting scratced or my furniture for that matter, they have hot pink softpaws and it looks so cute especially on the black cat. I would definatly recommend trying these before declawing.
