Sent it back December 1, 2008 Laura M. Hoover (virginia) This design of this gate is a nice idea but it did not work correctly for us. It would't close, you had to slam it, and many times it still didn't close. We returned it and got a lift and lock gate for half the price, it works much better.
Good for Short Parents October 20, 2008 D. Banta (TX) This is a great gate. I bought it because I'm not quite 5' tall. Because of the curve of this gate, I can step over it from the top step instead of from the second step, which I wouldn't be able to do. I attached it to a 2x4 cable-tied to the banister on one side and used MY OWN 4" drywall screws to attach it to the wall and stud on the other side. Seems secure to me. My 19 mo old learned how to hang on it and it still stands strong. We've had it about a year now. It gets 4 stars for 2 very small reasons: the wheel doesn't glide very easily on my carpet, so we have to lift slightly to open and close it smoothly. Also, you'll have to slam this thing to have the latch catch. It's a good latch, but the closing is loud. To keep this from waking sleeping babies, close it before the babies are asleep and step over it when they are.
Doesn't hold up October 16, 2008 KatyDid5429 (Philadelphia, PA) I loved the idea of the curve for the top of our stairs. Unfortunately, after three months, closing this gate has become very difficult. The hardware slides, and securing it to the lock is quite hard. Need to use two hands and pull from the bottom. We re-tighten the hardware and have tried tricks to keep it together, but it is time to take this off and try something else. I should also mention: it takes up a lot of space (compared to other gates) and does a lot of damage to the wal to install-likely because of its weight.
Wonderful product! August 31, 2008 Susan Headley (Rocky Ford, CO USA) The gate is wonderful! Easy to use...leaves plenty of room on each side of the stairway..very safe!
Just what we needed August 21, 2008 Jennifer (Shreveport, LA) We bought this gate because we have a bit of a gap between our top stair and the rail we'd have to mount the gate on. The curve of the gate keeps toys or little body parts from going down the stairs or under the gate. The gate is very sturdy. It took a while for us to install it because of the way our wall and railing are, but we figured it out fairly quickly. I really like the gate. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because of the latch. It's definitely secure and easy to open and close (push the button over and down - it's childproofed!), but if you're going up or down the stairs with one free hand, it's a bit of a challenge. I also didn't like that the hole guide for installing the gate was two-sided. The middle holes almost overlapped and made it a little more difficult during the installation. Other than the install and not being able to open it easily with one hand, the gate is perfect. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
